Financial Contoller

Location:  London Office (currently home-based)
Salary:  £55,000
Closing Date:  Friday 30 October 2020
Reference:  R045-20

Independent Age works to ensure that as we grow older, we all have the opportunity to live well with dignity, choice and purpose.  To achieve this we provide information, advice and connection services for older people; campaign on the issues that matter most to them around health and care, poverty and loneliness and provide capacity building support to others working in the sector.

This is an exciting time to join the charity as we transition to our new ambitious strategy for 2021 – 2023 and increase our profile, impact and reach so more people can live a happy, connected and purposeful later life. The Financial Controller plays a critical role, taking responsibility for all aspects of financial and management accounting for the charity and its subsidiaries, and leading their team to deliver excellent service to our colleagues. The right person will also collaborate with colleagues in Corporate Services and beyond to deliver projects to improve the quality of financial information produced, embed a business partnering approach within the Finance Team and enable others to deliver on their financial management responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have a recognised accountancy qualification, experience of working in the charity sector and a good understanding of sector issues and the charity SORP. They will be a strong people manager, who can lead and inspire their team, enable people to perform to the best of their abilities and organise and prioritise the team workload. They will have great attention to detail, be a strong problem solver and have outstanding communication, listening and relationship building skills. Most importantly they will have a demonstrable passion for, and affinity with our cause.

Independent Age has a wealth of benefits to support our people’s wellbeing, such as our Employee Assistance Programme, Cycle to Work scheme, generous leave allowances including 28 days annual leave and flexible working arrangements as well as financial support which includes a generous pension scheme, season ticket loans and access to a discount voucher scheme.
